Last week's chat about young Trueheart inspired what I'll be doing for the next little while: The First Impression. I'm going to take a stroll through the series and share the first description of or quote from our favorite characters.
Eve definitely leads the list with this first sentence describing her looks. I almost included the second sentence, but it was the "eyes that never had a chance to be naive" that caught me.
(BTW, we'll be in Naked in Death for a bit as we collect people the way Eve has.) -Laura

Nora really knows how to draw you in right off the bat!

I love this book…since it is the first one in a wonderful series, I gotta say it has led me on a wonderful journey.

JD caught me from the first paragraph of Naked. Love that Eve continues to lament having collected so many friends

I love this series’s and reread them all from beginning to where I am u til the next one drops !!!

I was drawn into Eve from the get-go! She may never had been naive but still a beautiful person, inside and out!

Great! It will be fun revisiting characters

Eve has amber brown eyes. I always thought how beautiful.

I love this idea โค๏ธ

Book 1 …. Start of thousands of great reading/audio hours๐Ÿ˜Š

I love this idea!!!! will be following... I guess it's time to start from the beginning again.. it's been awhile

I tell new readers to start at the beginning. I’ve read them all and more than once.

Looking forward to this. It wasn't the first "In Death" that I read but I was hooked and started the series from the beginning. I love getting to know the characters and how they grow.

Love this series......I have all of them and have re-read them a number of times. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ž

Re read the series many times but Naked in Death will always be my favorite.

What a good idea, Laura—thanks!

It was around Christmas time when I went into my local book store, many years ago. They had the first three In Death books in a special bundle. It was a very Merry Christmas to me! That started this fabulous journey of Roark and Eve. Thank you for the many hours of wonderful reading! ๐Ÿ˜Š

‘Eyes are the picture of the soul’

Great idea Laura

Loved it

I live in a suburb of Boston and the RMV that I had to renew my license at was down a weird ass alley. I asked a police officer to walk me down. He did. Dallas is the police officer you want to walk down weird ass alleys with.

Love this book it was it was the first futuristic book I ever read . Haven’t stopped reading her books number 1 in my book I own them all ๏ฟผ

One of the best opening lines ever!!

I’ve started rereading the series but ping pong back and forth with your new releases ๐Ÿฅฐ

I was hooked on this series within the first page of this story. Eve was so intriguing, you just want to get to know who she is and what made her. The good, the bad and the very ugly. Reading as she unintentionally lets everyone in to her life has been so entertaining and satisfying.

I love this idea! Nora really knows how to make her characters people we can so easily envision physically but also to understand their personalities. โค๏ธ

Loved seeing a healthy and happy Ariel from Creation in Death along with the her Cake of Thanks for Eve. Loved how Eve was so caught up in the Upper East Side portion of the cake that she was ready to lop it off and set up in her office. Good thing Roarke intervened. BTW, now I want cake. Just a simple yellow cake with buttercream frosting will suffice. And you? -Laua

Her brow furrowed. โ€œYou can? Oh. That would probably be better.โ€

Think I'd enjoy some carrot cake or German chocolate. Something simple works too.

Cheesecake. Maybe with raspberries or cherries. Or sweetened sour cream on top

Chocolate cake and frosting!

strangely, today I am feeling my Peabody side

I don't know about butterbream, but I'm a whipped frosting kinda gal myself

My homemade German Chocolate would be great.

Chocolate cake with chocolate or peanut butter icing ๐Ÿ˜‹

I dearly love these books

darn, now I also want cake.

chocolate cake with white frosting

Carrot cake with gooey cream cheese frosting

Dang, having brunch, now I need a carrot cake to go ๐Ÿ˜‹

Chocolate cake with chocolate icing. My mom always made it for me for my birthday. Best cake ever!๐ŸŽˆ

Chocolate mousse cake.

Sounds good!

Yum... any cake with buttercream frosting or cream cheese frosting will do!

For cake I would have to go with pineapple upside down cake

Yellow cake with chocolate fudge icing.....mmmm....now I'm thinking I'll have to go by Publix to see if they have any cake slices!

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! ๐Ÿ˜‹

I always want cake! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Love the way Eve thinks even when it is a cake!!!

I have read this series from beginning to end at least 3 times. Love them and all of the characters. One thing bothers me a little. I had hoped that by this time Eve would be a little more polished, less abrupt and less socially inept. She has to grow. I know I am going to be ripped from stem to stern for this comment, but come on, she is a very smart woman.

My home made German chocolate cake with the coconut and pecan icing, and double the icing of course!

I just finished half a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera, yum, I’m good now .

Lmao! I was just thinking about when Trueheart said HIS tie was a gift from the other guy's wife!

Trueheart is a rip!!!

Love Trueheart- he just slides the little zingers in.

It's the quiet ones you gotta look out for!!

I was so happy when Trueheart made detective. He and Baxter are such a good balance for each other.

Eve and Roarke setting up a meet at the Bang She Bang Club. Nice that she has that flexibility in the Roarke Persona menu. -Laura

Scary Roarke is a good tool in their arsenal

He's great in whatever role Eve needs him to play!

I love Eve!!

Then there's the Scary Roarke on the menu as well. . .

Love these two!

Definitely an advantage on this one

There are a few more: Scary Roarke, Bored Roarke. Love them all๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ

I just want to say that I love, love, love all these JD Robb's in Death series. Since my oldest daughter got me reading them many years ago, and I got my husband reading them too, I now read the whole series, at least all that I have, every year. And I honestly don't know how many years it has been, but every time I read each book, I either laugh or cry and I usually take note of something that I somehow missed before. Awesome writer you are. <3

Great at whatever role Eve needs from him

All sides of Roarke, are a great tool ๐Ÿ˜

Whatever role Eve needs him for he is ready x

Eve loves scary Roarke.

Scary Roarke is best, I love him when he goes in protactive role for Eve and friends, also the money and power he has... Love them, grew old with them, laugh and cry with them, thank you Ms. Nora.

No power would be the right word lol..he likely owns the place

I think Roarke enjoys using these different aspects of his persona. He’s obviously a person that needs challenges and as he is maturing (he’s never getting old) he’s answering these challenges by developing aspects of his personality consciously.

And Eve only uses it when she needs too. Otherwise she kicks butt all on her own.

I love when he jumps in and helps her or the team. Hilarious when she tells him he's a good cop! He's so insulted!

Strangers in Death is one of my favorites lol I love them all but it took me forever to think about Strangers on a Train

๐Ÿ’œ I love them!

Roarke can be whatever Eve needs.

All about the options and using them at any given moment! ๐Ÿ’—

Rereading Visions in Death I'm at the dinner party scene and love reading how Roarke can just connect with anyone about a broad spectrum of topics! I think we need another dinner party with Mavis and Leonardo added to the group so we can get the many different sides of Roarke also seeing Eve relax with her friends is always fun. Also we don't often get to see Eve, Roarke, Peabody, and McNab interact with each other outside of the job and it's always interesting when they do.

Random question. In which book did Eve discover the truth about Homeland’s part in her childhood?

Have reread all the In Death books, as I love the dynamics of the characters, especially when Eve has to have a makeover, she's so funny and Roarke has the patience of a Saint with her and is so supportive of her. Please keep them books acoming.

Love when they work together.
